Greek Waiter’s Tray
Catalogue No: 1040025
The waiters in Greek cafes are famous for their dexterity as they swing heavily loaded trays between tables without spill. This sturdy device illustrates this principle of rotational dynamics in a way that will amaze your class. Place a clear container of colored water on the platform of the tray and start swinging from side to side. With practice, you should be able to swing in wide circles and even upside down. The container stays put because the net force acting on it is always directed radially, toward the center. This pins the container to the tray along with its contents. Our durable wood tray doubles as a laboratory support stand and can be clamped vertically or horizontally. It includes an attached pendulum and instructions. If you add magnets to the base (not included), you can also use the pendulum to demonstrate chaotic motion.

Young’s Modulus Apparatu, Economical
Catalogue No: 1040100
Useful for studying the relationship between load applied to a wire and resulting extension (Young’s modulus of elasticity). Can also be used for comparing elastic moduli of two different wires. Two thick sheet metal strips with clamping screws at the top for wires and metal hooks for the loading masses at the bottom, are mounted in a rectangular plate, parallel to each other. The plate has a scale 0-40 x 1mm along with a movable Vernier of LC 0.1mm, attached to one of the metal strips. Supplied complete with a tension weight and a set of two wires and 1 each of brass 26 SWG and steel 24 SWG.

Young’s Modulus Apparatu, Searle’s Type
Catalogue No: 1040120/1
A specially designed apparatus capable of greater degree of sensitivity and accuracy. Two cast metal rectangular frames hinged together parallel to each other to allow only vertical relative motion, with a spirit level fixed on a cross-bar pivoted across the frames to note the reference point. One frame has vertical scale 10-0-10mm with a micrometer head reading to 0.01mm for adjusting the spirit level. Each frame has a self-centering chuck at its top for holding wires and load hooks at the bottom. Also includes a counterpoise weight and a set of two wires (one each of brass and steel).
