A simple and useful instrument that can be used as magnetic field indicator and to demonstrate the 3-D nature of magnetic fields. Features a gimbal-mounted Alnico magnet which is free to move in the x, y and z directions. As the probe is brought near a magnetic field, the magnet aligns itself along the field. A better alternative to iron filling and magnetic compass for investigating the field due to magnets and coil of various shapes, sizes and configurations.
